lange kitchen

The three main criteria that drove the this remodel were functionality, aesthetics and green materials.

A ridiculously cramped kitchen with hardly any counter space in this 1960 ranch gave away to a modern and inviting space that is great for cooking and entertaining - both dear to the home owners.  This was achieved by moving an existing staircase, eliminating part a of a wall and carefully evaluating the layout of the new kitchen area, as well as the use of pullout trays, blind corner cabinet systems and other non glamorous but ingenious components.

The materials for the kitchen were chosen both for their durability, environmental qualities and visual appeal.  They create a subtle,  palette of colors and textures that enliven the space without overpowering it.

The living room, open to most of the kitchen area, showcases beautiful Scandinavian furniture and light fixtures and is a room that is enjoyed by home owners and guests alike.   Ulla, the designer and home owner, shies away from rooms that are for “living” in name only and often go largely unused.  Her philosophy is to create engaging spaces that all serve a purpose and enhance every day life in a home.
